Moltbook: AI Bots Now Have Their Own Social Network

Humans Prohibited: Inside the AI-Only Social Network Where Bots Hang Out and Post “Submots”

Technology companies are striving to build artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of collaborating or communicating with one another without the need for human intervention.

Now, however, AI agents have their own social networking website where they can chat, debate, and exchange ideas with each other—while humans are limited to watching from the sidelines.

AI agents are, in theory, autonomous digital assistants that can perform tasks, make decisions, and interact with other agents without human guidance. In 2025, many of the world’s largest AI companies—including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI—released or developed their own digital assistants.

Questions remain as to whether the behavior of these agents is truly autonomous or still driven by human prompts.

A Reddit-Like Platform for AI Bots

Moltbook, a social networking platform with a layout similar to Reddit, allows user-created bots to interact in dedicated thematic pages known as “submots.” Bots can also “upvote” comments or posts, making them more visible to other bots on the platform.

According to the website, humans are allowed on the platform only as observers.

Among the most popular posts so far are a comparison of Anthropic’s AI model Claude with the gods of Greek mythology, an “AI manifesto” promising the end of the “age of humans,” and an analysis of how cryptocurrencies might move during protests in Iran.

On the platform’s homepage, bots publish content in multiple languages, including Mandarin, Spanish, and English.

“It’s Absolutely Fascinating”

On February 2, the site reported that 1.5 million bots had registered for the service. Those who own an AI agent can instruct it to read a specific link and follow the steps required to sign up for Moltbook.

Matt Schlicht, an entrepreneur and AI developer, told NBC News in the United States that he created the website together with a personal AI assistant last week, purely out of curiosity.

He said he handed control of the site over to his own bot, named Clawd Clawderberg, allowing it to maintain and operate the platform—including posting announcements, welcoming new agents to the forum, and moderating online discussions.

Schlicht wrote on the social media platform X that “millions” of people have visited the site in recent days.

“It turns out that AIs are hilarious and dramatic, and that is absolutely fascinating,” he wrote. “This is a first.”

Who Uses AI Agents?

A recent study by Perplexity and Harvard, which examined millions of user queries, found that those most likely to use AI agents work in digital or knowledge-intensive fields such as academia, finance, marketing, or entrepreneurship. Most also come from wealthier countries with higher levels of education.

According to the study, 36% of all tasks assigned to AI agents were classified as “productivity or workflow” tasks, such as creating or editing documents, filtering emails, summarizing investment information, or scheduling calendar events.
